LOVER IN POLICE NET FOR SETTING NEWLY WED COUPLE ABLAZE

A jilted lover simply identified as Ibrahim Muhammadu, has been arrested by the operatives of the Adamawa State Police Command for allegedly setting newly married couple ablaze. 

The accused who hails from Gadawaliwol in Jabbi Lamba, Girei Local Government Area in the state burnt the couple on the 6th September,  2022, barely 2 weeks after their wedding.

It was learnt that the bride died due to severe burns, while the groom is currently receiving treatment at the Specialist Hospital in Yola.

Muhammadu, who is already married and blessed with 4 children, fell in love with the deceased where he spent about N150, 000 on her after she had promised to marry him.

The deceased and the divorcee after collecting the sums of money, eventually declined the proposal and got married to another suitor who is the victim of the tragic incident.

Muhammadu, who was apparently angry after being ditched by the deceased, hired one Ibrahim Savanna, where he paid him the sum of N5, 000 and gave him 4 measures of rice for the job.

After collecting the money and the rice, Savanna armed himself with petrol and matches, tip toed quietly to the residence of the couple in dead of the night and perpetrated the heinous crime.

Savanna, who is now at large, was said to have locked his victims in their room, poured the petrol, set it on fire and took to his heels.

While confirming the incident on Friday, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, Spokesman of the Police Command, said that the suspect is in the police custody.

SP Nguroje, said that the Criminal Investigation Department of the Command is investigating the matter after which the suspect will be charged to court for prosecution, and advised the general public to desist from taking laws into their own hands.
