 Adamawa Varsity To Establish Faculty Of Medicine And Health Science

The Adamawa State University, ADSU Mubi is to establish faculty of Medicine and Health Science, to commence admission of students into Medicine and Surgery undergraduate programmes

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta made the disclosure at the 20th anniversary celebration and award presentation of the university held on Saturday in Mubi.

Farauta, said the Senate and Council of the University has conducted feasibility studies, inspected facilities and the Sahuda campus and the report is ready for presentation to the Adamawa State Governor.

She said the institution, which started academic activities in 2002, with three faculties, two Professors and 150 students now has 68 Professors that impact knowledge on 17,000 students.

The VC urged the North East Development Commission, (NEDC) to provide solar power systems for the institution that is challenged by inadequate electricity supply.

She cautioned lecturers who are of the habit of puting on ‘dragons faces’ to threaten students, to change for the better so as to allow for free flow of learning activities in University.

Earlier, The Guest Speaker, Prof Umar Pate, who doubles as the Vice Chancellor, Federal University Kashere Gombe, appealed to governments and stakeholders to strengthen the liberalization of higher institutions to give more access to university education.

Pate decried poverty level in university system, forcing some Professsors to look for survival alternatives outside teaching line.

He made a case for the establishing Grand Research Units to attract funds to the universities.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Malam Bashiru Ahmad appreciated the university management for traversing thus far academically.

He said the state’s only owned university is a force to reckone with in the league of state universities nationwide in the academia.

Fintiri who has taken education development as one of his key points agenda pledged to continue to give the needed support for the continual growth of the learning institution.

He described as progressive, the vision of the university management to introduce the study of medicine among other 21st century fields of study.
