Adamawa State Police Command has arrested three young men for being in possession of counterfeit new naira notes.
Those arrested by the police include; Babangida Mohammed, 27, Jibril Adamu, 32 and Auwal Buba, 18, of Savannah Afcort in Demsa Local Government Area.
They were nabbed on the 14th February, 2023, at Kpsham market in Demsa LGA, while trying to exchange some of the fake N1, 000, notes with the old ones.
While in the market, Auwal Buba, ordered for N200, bean cake from a woman and gave her the sum of N1, 000, fake money.
After collecting the money, the woman went in search for change but somebody was able to identify the money as fake when she presented it to him.
Auwal, was arrested on the spot which led to the arrest of 2 others on that fateful day.
While being interrogated by the spokesman of the police command, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, one of the accused, Babangida Mohammed, confessed to the crime.
Babangida, narrated that it was a man known as Salisu of Gindin Gada in Ngurore, who gave them the currency to the tone of N100, 000 in exchange of N30, 000.
He revealed that Salisu, had advised him to go local markets with the new currency and change it, saying that he did not know that it was fake money until when arrested.
All the 3 suspects admitted having committed the crime and bitterly regretted their action while pleading for mercy.
It is against this backdrop that the Commissioner of Police, Babatola Afolabi, through the SP Nguroje, advised the general public more especially those into business to be cautious.
He said that the suspects would be charged to court for prosecution after investigation must have been concluded by the Criminal Investigation Department.
