GOV. FINTIRI, OKOWA, ATTEND LCCN ANNUAL CONVENTION, SEEK FOR PRAYERS, SUPPORT
Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri and his Delta State counterpart Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, have solicited for prayers and support from the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria (LCCN) as they seek for election into offices of Vice president and Governor respectively
The duo made the request when they led their entourage to the 98th annual convention of the Church in Demsa Local Government Area of Adamawa State.Governor Fintiri in his address to the Church thanked the members for their prayers to him and other candidates, saying that their prayers has made it possible for him to fulfill the promises he made which yielded positive results to the development of the state.
He asked the congregation to support the candidature of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and other candidates in the forthcoming elections for good governance in Adamawa and Nigeria as a whole.
"We will continue with our laudable policies and programmes as well as entrench peace, unity and govern the state with fear of God that everyone will be proud of".
On his part, Governor Okowa of Delta State lauded Most Reverend Musa Panti Filibus for his Programme of addressing the menace of human trafficking in the country.
Dr. Okowa, who is the running mate to Atiku Abubakar in the forthcoming general elections, admonished the congregation to live Christlike lifestyle and continue to pray for Nigeria.
"I'm proud to be a christian. I will continue to live on the faith. It is time for us to pray for our country and make the right choices, we must be ready to accomodate both the Christian and the Muslim faiths," said Okowa.
While commending the Church for embarking on the project for the construction of Lutheran University Nigeria (LUN) on behalf of himself, family and Government of Delta State donated the sum of one hundred million naira towards actualizing the project .
In his remarks, Former Governor of Adamawa State, Boni Haruna called on the Church to use the lessons they learned and genuinely give their lives to Christ.
He condemned the ruling party in the country for running same faith ticket at the presidential level saying that their intension is anti unity, peace and progress of the country calling on the congregation to oppose such undemocratic move.
The President of Lutheran World Federation, Most Reverend Panti Filibus appreciated the Governors for taking their time to honour the 98th Assembly of the annual convention of the LCCN.
He said God gives power to whom he chooses and expressed concerns how some candidates solicite for prayers and votes but when elected forget and turned their backs away from the people and begin to govern base on sentiment and selfish interest.
He called on them to make a difference and do justice as they carryout the task of governance.
Bishop Benjamin Fututa of Abuja Diocese led a special prayers for Governors Fintiri and Okowa and for free, fair and credible conduct of the forthcoming general elections.
