Adamawa Govt Commiserates With Victims Of Yola Market Inferno

 Adamawa State Government has described as unfortunate the fire disaster that engulfed some shops in Yola town market, destroying goods of millions naira on Thursday morning.

The State Governor, Rt. Hon Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri who stated this when he visited the scene of the inferno to commiserate with the market community, promised to assist the victims to put back their businesses.

The Governor represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Malam Bashiru Ahmad urged the victims to take solace that the incidence was a destined occurrence.

“We thank God, it happens during the day time when the market is open and the marketers are already around, this would have been the most serious disaster giving the nature of the environment.

“The incidence is limited to four or five shops and I hope the owners would take solace that this is a destined occurrence and we would look at what can be done to assist for them pick up, he said.

Governor Fintiri applauded the standing rule of the market community on the use of power and urged them to continue to adhere to it to protect their businesses for the benefit of the state.

“It happened in shops, selling materials that are easily combustible and thanks to the cooperation around to put off the fire before arrival of the fire service personnel, added the Governor.

The chairman, Gamzaki Traders Association Yola South LGA, Alhaji Ali Kachalla who took the Governor round explained that the inferno happened at pass nine in the morning due to electrical fault.

He described the incidence as an act of God, as according to him, the market community has a standing rule that light is switched off at 6pm and swiched on at 9am every day to avoid any unforseen calamity.

The Inferno which lasted for some minutes affecting blouse, tailoring among other shops was put off with the help of good Samaritans before the arrival of the fire service personnel.
