A database can be defined as a structured collection of data that is stored and organized in a manner that allows efficient querying and retrieval of information. It is a set of related data that is typically stored and accessed electronically from a computer system.

(1bi)in database refers to a single alphabetic or numeric data item that is stored in a particular location within a database. A character can also be a symbol or punctuation mark that is used as part of a larger text string within a database field.

(1bii) A field in a database is a specific area within a database record that is used to store a single data value or piece of information. A field can be thought of as a column in a database table, where each column represents a unique data item or attribute.

(i) Increased access to information: The internet provides access to a vast amount of information on various topics. This helps people to access information quickly and easily, enabling them to improve their knowledge and make informed decisions.

(ii) Improved communication: The internet has brought people closer together by making communication faster and more convenient. It has enabled people to connect with each other in real-time, irrespective of their location, and share information and ideas.

A file is a collection of data that is stored on a computer system and is typically assigned a filename and file extension that identifies its type and location. Files can contain various types of data, including text, images, audio, and video.

A folder, on the other hand, is a container used to organize and store files on a computer system. It is used to group related files together and organize them hierarchically. Unlike files, folders do not contain data, but they can contain other folders or files.

(2a)
(i). Bus Topology:
In a bus topology, all devices are connected to a single central cable, known as the “bus.” Each device communicates directly with this shared cable. Data transmitted by one device is received by all devices, but only the intended recipient processes the data. It’s a simple and cost-effective setup but can be prone to disruptions if the main cable fails.

(ii). Star Topology:
In a star topology, all devices are connected to a central hub or switch. Each device has its own dedicated connection to the central hub, enabling efficient communication. If one device fails, it doesn’t affect the rest of the network. However, the central hub becomes a single point of failure. Star topologies are common in modern networks due to their reliability and ease of management.
