The post seemed to be a video snippet taken on the set of the comedy show. In the caption, Gomez tagged the official Instagram account for "Only Murders in the Building" and added the phrase, "Missing and wanting." Within 15 hours, the post garnered over 1.1 million likes before being taken down.

Variety has contacted Gomez's representative for a statement, while SAG-AFTRA has refrained from commenting on the situation.

Under SAG-AFTRA's strike guidelines, members are prohibited from promoting their work through press interviews or social media posts during the ongoing strike. Although Gomez neither spoke in the set video nor encouraged her followers to watch the show in her caption, she did tag the official "Only Murders in the Building" account. This led followers to assume that the video was taken on the set of the Hulu series. Whether this constitutes a rule violation is under debate. Many of Gomez's followers accused her of crossing a picket line, with one even criticizing the post as "tone-deaf" during the strike.

"Only Murders in the Building" is presently airing its third season on Hulu. Gomez co-stars alongside Steve Martin and Martin Short in the series, portraying Mabel Mora, a young artist skilled in investigating murders in New York City. Gomez has been a regular cast member since the pilot episode. The third season, which began on August 8, is scheduled to run until October 3 on Hulu.
