Jackson Ngmbi Banda, widely recognized by his stage name Jay Rox, is a Zambian rapper, composer, songwriter, producer, and the CEO of Headphone Music. He has garnered numerous awards for his contributions to the music industry.
Jay Rox gained prominence as a member of one of Zambia's most successful music groups, Zone Fam. Led by Zambian music industry luminary Holstar, the group achieved great acclaim and released hit singles such as "Shaka Zulu On 'Em," "Contolla," and "Translate." They also launched a studio album and a mixtape titled "The Business and The Full Script Mixtape."
Beyond his work with Zone Fam, Jay Rox has released a plethora of solo projects including singles, studio albums, and extended plays. In 2012, he released his debut studio album titled "Mvesesani," featuring tracks like "Zamcab," "Boza," and "Monga Nkogole." Collaborators on the album included artists like Queen Diva Mampi, Chef 187, Holstar, T-Sean, Dope G, and Yung Verbal.
His second studio album, "Outside The Rox," arrived in 2015 with 17 tracks and guest appearances from artists such as Wezi, Salma, Willz, Zamba, Destro, Church Ulukuta, Chuba, Stoney-boy Wonda Boy, Carmine, and Jo Z Jay.
Following this, Jay Rox released the EP "Trans Afrique" in 2017, featuring collaborations with Malawian artist Tay Grin and local talents like Dimpo Williams, Shadaya, Mampi, Sonye, and T-Low. That same year, he launched his third studio album, "Lusaka," containing 17 tracks including hits like "Get Lost," "One and Only," "One Day," and the titular "Lusaka."
His fourth studio album, "Outside The Rox 2," released as a follow-up to his second album, boasted 18 songs and featured both international and local artists. Nigerian artist Orezi, Ghana's Stonebwoy, and Zimbabwe's Ammara Brown were among the international contributors, while local artists like Wezi, Mumba Yachi, Willz, and Cactus Agony also contributed.
"Scar," Jay Rox's fifth studio album released in 2020, housed 23 tracks featuring collaborations with Zambian heavyweights such as Nez Long, Pompi, Slap Dee, Tommy D, Zar the Supreme, and Trina South. The album also included international artists like Rayvanny, Ay, and Victoria Kimani.
In 2022, he released his sixth studio album, "Enigma," consisting of 21 tracks and collaborations with prominent artists worldwide, including Ravanny, Slap Dee, Macky 2, CJ, Yo Maps, Young Lunya, Zar the Supreme, and Umusepela Chile.
Jay Rox's consistency in releasing albums remains unmatched, with his seventh studio album titled "August Turn." The album comprises 24 tracks featuring contributions from Umusepela Chile, Trina South, Zar the Supreme, Chef 187, Dizmo, Mickey Singer, Elisha Jayden, MUMBA Yachi, Jea Cash, T Sean, Stevo, Cleo, T Low, Slap Dee, Kush, Kaladoshasi, Tommy D, Nutty O, and Stamina Shorwebwenzi.
In addition to his solo work, Jay Rox has engaged in collaborative projects, including "Chuchunya Files" with Umusepela Chile and "Fred Vs Jeason," a collaboration with Apa Iliso CEO Jea Cash. He also released an extended play titled "Poetry in Motion."
