"Tragic Incident Unfolds: Female Soldier's Accidental Shot Claims Captain's Life in Yola"
In Yola, the capital of Adamawa State, a female soldier identified as Lance Corporal Nkiru reportedly accidentally shot and killed a senior colleague, Captain, during an altercation with civilians amid a curfew imposed by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri.
The curfew was in response to looting at government warehouses, including items aimed at mitigating the impact of fuel subsidy removal.
Despite claims of essential duty, the female soldier insisted on turning back motorists returning home during the curfew.
A security officer explained that the Captain intervened but tragically, the female soldier, who had already cocked her rifle, discharged it accidentally, resulting in the Captain's death.
The victim was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Yola, where he was pronounced dead. The suspect, the female soldier, was promptly arrested by fellow soldiers due to prior allegations of civilian harassment and unwarranted rifle cocking.
