Sydney Sweeney Unveils Behind-the-Scenes Details of the Infamous and "Disgusting" 'Euphoria' Hot Tub Scene ( Watch Video )
Sydney Sweeney delves into the unforgettable hot tub scene from "Euphoria" Season 2 in a candid interview on the latest episode of First We Feast's "Hot Ones." The 26-year-old "Anyone But You" actress walks host Sean Evans through the notorious moment that left viewers captivated.
In this particular storyline, Sweeney's character, Cassie, navigates a complex web of betrayal involving her best friend, Maddy (Alexa Demie), and Maddy's on-again-off-again boyfriend, Nate (Jacob Elordi). The scene in question unfolds as Cassie, emotionally distressed after witnessing Maddy and Nate together, turns to drinking. The culmination of the dramatic confrontation sees Cassie crying and vomiting in the hot tub.
Sweeney provides insight into the creation of this intense scene, describing it as "the most disgusting thing" she ever experienced. The "Euphoria" director, Sam Levinson, envisioned a pool of vomit, necessitating the use of a pump and a concealed pipe on Sweeney's body. CGI was employed in post-production to remove the pipe from her neck, and Sweeney wore a horse bit in her mouth during the scene to facilitate the vomiting effect.
She vividly recalls the process, stating, "During that scene, they’re filling my mouth with throw-up. And then I opened my mouth, and it just starts shooting out my mouth."
The interview also touches on Sweeney's diverse roles, including Olivia Mossbacher in "The White Lotus," Eden Spencer in "The Handmaid's Tale," and her upcoming portrayal of Julia Carpenter in Marvel's "Madame Web." Sweeney shares her unique acting technique of maintaining journals for each character, with Cassie's journal standing out as a potential "personal memoir" due to the character's substantial development over two seasons.
As fans anticipate Season 3 of "Euphoria" slated for release in 2025, Sweeney's revelations provide an intriguing glimpse into the behind-the-scenes intricacies of the acclaimed series.
